Daddy’s girl

Brandon had to go to Pennsylvania for work on Monday and he didn’t get home until Wednesday night. While he was gone Aubrey was extra clingy. She doesn’t normally have any problem with me handing her off to Mona Lisa in the mornings but she had an absolute meltdown on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was as if she was afraid I was leaving her too and she’d never see either of us again. It was so sad and so sweet at the same time. With her being so mobile she doesn’t often wrap her arms around my neck and want to be held. This week though she gripped me with her knees like I was a greased ThighMaster!

When I picked her up on Wednesday I told her how her Daddy was coming home that night and he wouldn’t be home until after she was already in bed but she would get to see him when she woke up in the morning. Sometimes I forget that while she doesn’t say many words, she understands A LOT! She was wired all night and I couldn’t convince her to get in bed until almost 9 pm. Of course, those of you with toddlers know, “in bed” doesn’t necessarily mean “asleep.” I could hear her singing and jabbering in her room until 10:30! It was almost like she wanted to stay up as long as she could to see Brandon when he got home. Luckily she konked out about 40 minutes before he walked in the door, otherwise she would have caught her second wind and we’d all have been up until 2.

In honor of “Daddy comes home” Day, Aubrey wore a special shirt. I used the beautiful weather that we haven’t seen much of lately to take some pictures.

Okay … the one where she’s on the ground looking up and you can see those beautiful blue eyes the best, just melts my heart!

And is it a “like mother, like daughter” on the dirty hands thing? 😉
